Norton-in- Hales Cricket Club is based on the village playing field at Norton-in-Hales. The Cricket Club was first established in the late 1920’s and moved to its current location following the Second World War. League cricket was first played at Norton-in- Hales in the 1970’s when the Club joined the South Cheshire Alliance League. In the mid-1990s the reorganisation of local cricket in line with ECB policy and the Club now plays Saturday league cricket in the North Staffs and South Cheshire Cricket League. This year the Club will also have a team playing midweek league cricket in the North Staffs and District Phoenix Cricket League and will be running an under 8s team in the South Moorlands Junior Cricket League. The Club is always keen to recruit new playing and / or social members and information can be obtained by contacting Club Secretary Simon Line.

This year we are running four teams plus the ECB All Stars Programme again for local 5-8 year olds. Up to date information about practice sessions and fixtures can be found on the cricket club website under ‘Fixtures and Practice Sessions’.
The First team plays in the 2nd Division of the North Staffs South Cheshire League. They were promoted last year. The captain this season is Mike Dyer assisted by vice captain Simon Line. We have a few new recruits this season to strengthen our squad and help us to compete in the higher division. This year we have also recruited a young player and junior coach from New Zealand called Angus Henderson.
The Second Team is competing in the 7th Division of the North Staffs South Cheshire League The team is captained this year by Garry Rudd and assisted by vice captain Ben Furnival. The team consists of a mixture of seasoned veterans and enthusiastic and promising youngsters. The aim is to compete at this level whilst giving the youngsters a game and hopefully bringing them on for the future. Occasionally the second team can find itself short on numbers so if you can, let the chairman – Roly Tavernor Tel 07816298352 – know of your interest.
Our midweek ‘Phoenix’ team is entered into the North Staffs and District Phoenix Cricket League with evening fixtures throughout the summer. Captain is Jack Furnival. Fixture times and dates will be confirmed on the Norton in Hales CC website as soon as they are available.
We also run a U8s team in the South Moorlands Junior Cricket League. The season extends from April to August with games played on Saturday mornings . Please contact our junior cricket coordinator Simon Belfield for more information.
This year we are running junior coaching for boys and girls aged 8 to 13. Junior coaching night is on Fridays from 6-7.30 pm from 6th April. This will be led by our coach from New Zealand Angus Henderson. Angus will be assisted by several qualified qualified Level 2 Junior coaches.
Each year the cricket club continues to organise successful social events such as our Sporting Evenings with international sports stars such as Matthew Hoggard and Neil Back. This year, on Friday 31 st August we will be holding an evening with Yorkshire and England bowler Ryan Sidebottom. Our annual Brewery Tour / Quiz night at Joules Brewery in Market Drayton will be held on Tuesday 17th April and other events are planned throughout the year.
The cricket club runs a Bonus Ball competition throughout the year and we are very lucky to have very good sponsors of our club. Joules Brewery are Cricket Club Sponsors, and other main sponsors are AR Richards, Hales Sawmills, Ford Hall Farm and LKL. Also we value highly all our match sponsors who support the cricket club throughout the season.
